Ennio Morricone

Ennio Morricone wrote more than four hundred scores and roughly a hundred concert works, and changed what film music was allowed to sound like. The Leone westerns are the famous part: whistling, cracked whips, an electric guitar and a human voice used as an instrument, much of it built because the budget could not afford an orchestra doing anything conventional. He worked in almost every genre Italian cinema produced. He took an honorary Academy Award in 2007 and finally a competitive one for The Hateful Eight. He died in 2020, at ninety one.
