Comedy has been the whole job so far. Franco, born in Yuma, Arizona in 1995, works as both an actor and a comedian, and the two are not really separable in his casting: he plays the guy whose timing sits a half-beat behind everyone else in the scene, and who is completely untroubled by that.
The roles people know are Argyle in Stranger Things, Theo in Booksmart, Spencer Diaz in the mockumentary series American Vandal, and DJ Catnip in the preschool show Gabby's Dollhouse. American Vandal is the smartest thing on this list and the best use anyone has made of him, because a fake documentary needs performers who can be funny while pretending not to perform. Begin there.
Booksmart comes next, a sharp high-school comedy where he gets a few of the best small moments in it. Stranger Things is the biggest audience he has had and the role most people will recognise, and it is worth seeing what he does with material that mostly asks him to lower the temperature of a scene. From there, Y2K and Self Reliance are the odd small comedies worth a look, while Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken and Gabby's Dollhouse cover the animation side if there are children in the house.
