Danielle Campbell
Danielle Campbell is an actor, born 1995.
The Disney Channel machine produced her, and it produced her efficiently: Jessica Olson in the 2010 original movie Starstruck, then Simone Daniels in the 2011 feature Prom, which is more or less the standard route through that studio for a teenage actress from Hinsdale, Illinois. Her earliest listed credit predates all of it, a 2008 independent drama called The Poker House, and it is a considerably harder film than anything Disney would have handed her.
The pivot came in 2013 with The Originals. Davina Claire ran long enough to make her a genre television lead rather than a Disney graduate, and the parts that followed stayed in that lane: Harper Tate in Famous in Love, two roles in Tell Me a Story as Kayla Powell and Olivia Moon, Eiffel in Marvel's Runaways, a doctor on The Rookie.
What she is good at is being the emotionally literate one in a cast of people behaving badly, holding the audience's sympathy while doing very little to earn it on the page. That is an unglamorous skill and it is why she has kept working through a decade in which most Disney Channel leads did not. Where to start with Danielle Campbell
There is one obvious door in, and it is The Originals. Not out of politeness either: Davina is the part that gave her something to build with after two Disney leads, and the show handed her years of scenes to build it in.
If you want the Disney version first, Starstruck is the definitive one and Prom is its slightly more grown-up companion. Tell Me a Story is the darkest thing here, a thriller series that asked her to carry more than one role at a time. The Poker House is the outlier and the toughest watch, an early credit in a film with no interest in charming anybody. The Rookie and Marvel's Runaways are supporting credits, better as follow-ups than entry points, and The Waterfront is where she is now.
