Dan Abnett

Dan Abnett is an author.

Dan Abnett is an English comic book writer and novelist, and one of the very few tie-in authors whose name sells the book. He has written for Marvel and its UK imprint since the 1990s, frequently with Andy Lanning, and has also worked for 2000 AD and DC. His Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000 novels for Games Workshop's Black Library now run to several dozen titles and have sold more than two million copies, which makes him the writer who did most to give that setting a prose voice. In 2009 he began publishing original fiction through Angry Robot.

Where to start with Dan Abnett

Xenos (The Eisenhorn Trilogy, Book 1) is the right entry point, an Inquisition procedural that works even if you have never touched Warhammer, and it runs on into Malleus (The Eisenhorn Trilogy, Book 2) and Hereticus. First and Only (Gaunt's Ghosts) is the war novel strand, closer to Sharpe than to space opera. If you want the big series, Horus Rising opens it and is the best written volume in it.
