Daisuke Ono
Daisuke Ono is an actor, born 1978.
Daisuke Ono is one of the most heavily booked voice actors in Japan, with hundreds of credits behind him. Born in Sakawa, Kochi in 1978, he won best lead actor at both the 4th and the 9th Seiyu Awards, for work including Sebastian Michaelis in Black Butler, Jotaro Kujo in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Shukuro Tsukishima in Bleach, and took the Best Personalities prize at the 9th.
The instrument is a low, unhurried baritone that produces authority without any apparent effort, and the roles that made him famous all exploit the same thing: a man who never needs to raise his voice because he has already decided. Erwin Smith in Attack on Titan, commanding people toward things they will not survive. Jotaro Kujo, who communicates mainly in refusals. Sebastian Michaelis, whose politeness is a threat delivered at a bow.
The range shows up in the comedy, which is where a lot of English-language viewers miss him entirely. Fafnir in Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid is the same voice used for flat, misanthropic deadpan. Killer T Cell in Cells at Work! is it stretched into cartoon rage. Shizuo Heiwajima in Durarara!!, Jyushimatsu in Osomatsu-san, Shintaro Midorima in Kuroko's Basketball, Itsuki Koizumi in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Daikoku in Noragami, Nightwing in Batman Ninja.
Outside the booth he co-hosts the long-running radio show Dear Girl Stories with fellow voice actor Hiroshi Kamiya, which has its own devoted audience quite separate from the anime.

Where to start with Daisuke Ono
The widest door is Attack on Titan. Erwin Smith is a commander written as a rhetorician, and the character works entirely on the weight Ono puts under the speeches.
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is the other pillar, and it is the funnier assignment: Jotaro barely speaks, so everything has to arrive in tone. Pair it with Black Butler, where the same control gets pointed at menace disguised as service. Then break the pattern deliberately. Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid and Cells at Work! show the comic register, Kuroko's Basketball gives him a stiff, ridiculous perfectionist, and Durarara!! hands him the loudest role on this list.
For something quieter, In This Corner of the World is a beautiful film and a reminder that he can play an ordinary man with no gimmick attached.
The defining roles
Jotaro in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Erwin Smith in Attack on Titan are the two the reputation rests on, and both are built on the same thing: a low voice used sparingly. Sebastian in Black Butler is the third, and the most performed of them.
The comedies
The same voice used for absurdity, which works because it never acknowledges the joke. The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. is the funniest of them, and Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid is the warmest.
The films
The feature work, which is more varied than the series roles. In This Corner of the World is much the best of them, a quiet wartime film that almost nobody outside Japan saw, and Batman Ninja is the strangest.
