Coy Stewart

Coy Stewart is an actor, born 1998.

Coy Stewart was born in Columbia, South Carolina in 1998 and has been working on screen since 2009. He started on educational television, playing Marcus on the revived The Electric Company, and moved straight into a network sitcom as Kevin Persons on the TBS series Are We There Yet?

Child actors mostly stall at the handover into adult work. Stewart did not. He led as Troy Dixon in Nickelodeon's Bella and the Bulldogs, played Flint in a late run of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and took Lorenzo Webber in the Netflix sitcom Mr. Iglesias. Along the way he picked up the darker jobs a sitcom kid usually cannot get: Declan in the crime series The Glades, Dax in the low-budget horror film House of the Witch (2017).

The best thing he has done is voice work. As Benson in Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts he carries a lot of the show's warmth without ever tipping it into sentiment, and the series is a rare piece of children's animation that is well written line by line rather than only in outline. He also records as a musician under the name SWIM.

Where to start with Coy Stewart

Whatever your age, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts is the place to start. It is a post-apocalyptic adventure with a genuinely strange world and a voice cast that plays it straight, and Benson is the friend character done properly, funny without being demoted to comic relief.

For live action, Mr. Iglesias is the easy watch, a warm classroom sitcom that gives him room to be the smart one, and Bella and the Bulldogs is the Nickelodeon version of the same energy aimed younger. Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is where he does the most with the least, arriving late into a long-running series and holding his own against a settled cast. The Glades and Are We There Yet? are the early credits, useful mainly for seeing how young he started, and House of the Witch is the horror detour.
