Chrissie Hynde

Christine Ellen Hynde is an American-British singer, songwriter and musician, and the founding member of the Pretenders: lead vocalist, guitarist and principal songwriter, the band's only original member and the only person to have played on every one of its studio albums. That last detail is the whole biography in miniature. The band's line-up has changed repeatedly and she has been the constant through all of it.

The screen credits gathered here are a by-product of a music career rather than a second one. She has two animated voice parts, Michelle in Happy Feet and Siri in Rugrats Go Wild, an appearance on Da Ali G Show, and interviews as herself in three documentaries: McEnroe, Lilith Fair: Building a Mystery and Man on the Run. It is a short list and an honest one, and nobody should come to this page expecting an acting career. The work is on the records.

Where to start with Chrissie Hynde

The documentaries are where she actually says something, so start there. McEnroe uses her as a witness to a particular kind of eighties fame, and Lilith Fair: Building a Mystery covers the nineties touring festival built entirely around women headliners, which is territory she can speak to with some authority. Man on the Run is the most recent of the three.

The voice work is a separate pleasure: Happy Feet is the bigger film and Rugrats Go Wild the sillier one, and both cast her for the voice rather than for a performance. Da Ali G Show is the oddity on the list and exactly as strange as you would expect.
