Celeste Loots
Celeste Loots is an actor.
Celeste Loots was already working steadily in South African television when Netflix's One Piece put her in front of a global audience. On Afrikaans-language channels she has been a regular presence across four series: Trompoppie and Wyfie on Showmax, Straat and Suidooster on kykNET, the last two still running. That is a domestic career of the sort that usually stays domestic.
The One Piece role changed it. She plays Kaya, the sheltered young heiress in the show's middle stretch, a part that is easy to play as passive and that she does not. Her Kaya is unwell and confined but perfectly clear-eyed about the people around her, which is what makes the arc land rather than simply happen to her.
She has since taken a small role in the independent feature Lilies Not for Me.

Where to start with Celeste Loots
There is really only one place to begin, and it happens to be a good one. ONE PIECE is the live-action adaptation that finally cracked a format everyone before it had failed at, and Loots arrives in the stretch where the show stops being a proof of concept and starts caring about its characters. Watch what she does with stillness; the part gives her very little movement to work with.
After that, Wyfie is the Afrikaans-language series to try, a much looser register than the Netflix work and the better demonstration that she can be funny. Lilies Not for Me is a small part in an independent feature and one for completists. Her kykNET series Straat and Suidooster are not among the credits listed here.
