Casper Christensen
In Denmark, Christensen is closer to a broadcasting institution than to an actor. He built the career on television hosting, including the comedy show Casper and Mandrilaftalen and the Danish versions of imported formats like Shooting Stars, Don't Forget Your Toothbrush and Deal or No Deal, before the sitcoms made him something more durable.
The important one is Klovn, where he plays a character called Casper, a heightened and considerably worse version of himself, opposite a comedy partner running the same trick. It is autofiction as social horror, the humour assembled almost entirely out of small cowardices and the refusal to admit to them, and it made a very specifically Danish comic voice travel. The German remake jerks. carries his creator credit. Before all that, Far from Las Vegas had already cast him in a sitcom as a version of himself under his own name, so the strategy predates the hit.
The international work is thinner and more conventional. He appears in the Hollywood comedy The Hustle as a mark, and he directed the 2023 science-fiction comedy Robots, which is the credit here most likely to surprise anyone who only knows the Danish material.

Where to start with Casper Christensen
Everything rests on Klovn, so go there and nowhere else first. Watch two episodes and you will know whether this brand of Danish embarrassment comedy is yours. There is no middle ground with it, and the show has no interest whatsoever in redeeming anybody.
Far from Las Vegas is the earlier sitcom and a rougher draft of the same persona, worth it once you are converted. jerks. is the German remake he holds a creator credit on, and a useful test of how much of the original was cultural and how much was structural. Outside the Danish work, The Hustle is the English-language comedy where he plays the mark, and Robots is the film he directed, a broader science-fiction comedy suggesting his taste is wider than his reputation.
