Cardi B
The music is the career; the screen credits are what fame does to a diary. Cardi B, born in New York City in 1992, launched a music career in 2016 and put out two mixtapes, and Invasion of Privacy followed in 2018. The awards on her record include a Grammy for best rap album. Her reputation rests on an energetic flow and lyrics with no diplomatic filter at all.
Two acting jobs are worth taking seriously. Diamond in Hustlers in 2019 is the one people quote, a supporting part that works because the film asks her to do on camera what she does in interviews: talk fast, hold the room, and puncture anybody getting sentimental. Leysa in F9 in 2021 is smaller and mostly a favour to the franchise's sense of occasion.
The rest is presence rather than performance. She appears as herself in Beyonce's HOMECOMING, on Love and Hip Hop New York, on Between Two Ferns and on David Letterman's interview series, and voices Sharki B in Baby Shark's Big Movie. Mercedes in Being Mary Jane is the earliest scripted credit listed.
Nothing on the screen side explains why she matters. The album does. Treat the film work as an appendix to it.

Where to start with Cardi B
Invasion of Privacy is the only essential item here, and every other credit on the page reads differently once you have heard it. Play it first.
For the screen, Hustlers is the acting credit that justifies itself: a handful of scenes, very funny in all of them, inside a film good enough to carry a near-first-time performer. F9 is a cameo in a very loud machine and is fine on those terms. HOMECOMING: A film by Beyoncé and Love & Hip Hop New York are the two documentary bookends of the story, one showing the industry at its most rehearsed and the other at its least. Baby Shark's Big Movie exists for one specific household, and you already know whether you live in it.
