Bruce Harwood
Bruce Harwood is an actor, born 1963.
Bruce Harwood has a fine character-actor career hiding inside a list of job titles. Born in North Vancouver in 1963, he worked out of a city that became North America's television back lot, and the credits show it: Technician in The Fly II, Scientist in The Last Mimzy, Network Executive in Bingo, Record Man in Personal Effects. He is the man who explains the machine, and he plays that with a calm that makes the explanation sound plausible.
The role that mattered was John Fitzgerald Byers on The X-Files, one third of the Lone Gunmen, a trio of conspiracy obsessives introduced as comic relief who became popular enough that Chris Carter's show spun them off. The Lone Gunmen aired thirteen episodes in 2001 and gave Byers something rare for a recurring joke: a straight line of his own to play. Harwood carried the character into the 1998 feature as well.
Elsewhere the pattern repeats with variations. He was Willis, a Phoenix Foundation technician in MacGyver, and Dr Avery Strong in The Outer Limits, a government scientist who ends up as a conspiracy theorist about his own field. He is also a founding member of Bard on the Beach, Vancouver's summer Shakespeare festival, which is the part of the career a screen filmography will never show.

Where to start with Bruce Harwood
Byers lives in The X-Files, and that is the only sensible way in, though you do not need the whole series. The Lone Gunmen episodes are a distinct strand, funnier and shaggier than the mythology around them, and Harwood plays Byers with a sincerity that is what makes the other two funny.
If that lands, The Lone Gunmen is the spin-off, thirteen episodes of odd, likeable comedy that ran a single short season. The X-Files puts the trio on a bigger canvas for a scene.
Outside that, treat it as spotting rather than viewing. The Outer Limits gives him the closest thing to a lead in an anthology episode, MacGyver has him as the Phoenix Foundation's tech, and The Fly II and The Last Mimzy are the small science-explaining parts that kept the lights on for thirty years.
