Beth Ditto
Ditto is a singer first, and these screen credits only make sense in that light. She fronted the indie rock band Gossip, and her voice, regularly measured against Etta James, Janis Joplin and Tina Turner, was always the whole event. She dissolved the band to work in fashion, started a solo career, and in 2024 Gossip reformed.
Acting arrived sideways and she has been sensibly unhurried about it. Reba in Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot, Gus Van Sant's film about the cartoonist John Callahan, is the closest she has come to a substantial supporting part. Bets in On Becoming a God in Central Florida works the same register: broke, funny, and played without a shred of condescension, which is not a given for a musician cast in a comedy about multi-level marketing.
Monarch, the Fox country music drama, gave her Gigi Taylor-Roman and folded her actual profession back into the job. She is a natural presence rather than a trained one, and the difference shows most in scenes that ask for stillness rather than personality.

Where to start with Beth Ditto
Begin with On Becoming a God in Central Florida. It is the best thing on this list by a distance, a bitter comedy about pyramid selling where Ditto's Bets is the warmest presence on screen and never once the punchline.
Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot is the next stop, a Gus Van Sant biopic with a recovery-group ensemble that gives her real scenes to play. Monarch is the one built for her, a country music soap that lets her sing, which is the thing she was built for.
Next in Fashion is worth a look if you care about the design career she left the band to pursue. Nocturnal Animals is a voice credit lasting seconds and nothing to plan an evening around.
