Becky Chambers

Becky Chambers is an author.

Becky Chambers is an American science fiction writer, best known for the Hugo-winning Wayfarers series and for the Monk and Robot novellas that begin with A Psalm for the Wild-Built. She writes worldbuilding first and conflict second: her ships and stations are worked out down to the plumbing, and her plots tend to be about people managing to live together rather than about anything exploding. That approach made her one of the writers usually credited with starting hopepunk. She has won Hugo Awards for best novella and best series, and a Locus for best novella.

Where to start with Becky Chambers

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet is the entry point, a tunnelling ship's crew doing their jobs and getting along, and either you settle into it in fifty pages or it is not for you. A Closed and Common Orbit is the better novel and the one to read next. A Psalm for the Wild-Built is the shortest way to sample her, a tea monk and a robot walking and talking. To Be Taught, If Fortunate is the most rigorous.
