Baek Ji-won
Baek Ji-won is an actor, born 1973.
Baek Ji-won took a degree in horticultural science at Kyung Hee University before making her acting debut on stage in 1996, and the three decades since have gone almost entirely into Korean television's supporting ranks, where the work is constant and the billing is not.
The credits read like a census of the Korean drama's middle-aged women: mothers, wives, a foster mother, secretaries, a nurse, a detective. What she does with them is refuse the shorthand. Handed a part written as a function, she plays a person who has other things going on that day, and the effect is that scenes with her in the background feel populated rather than decorated. It is the least glamorous skill in the industry, and it is the one that keeps an actor working across thirty years of format changes.
The streaming era finally exported her. Han Seon-young in Extraordinary Attorney Woo put her in front of a global audience in 2022, and When Life Gives You Tangerines did it again in 2025, inside a run that also takes in The Fiery Priest, Racket Boys, Melancholia, Snowdrop and Goodbye Earth. More than forty titles are collected on this page. If you have watched a serious quantity of Korean drama, you have watched her, most likely without learning her name.

Where to start with Baek Ji-won
Everyone arrives here from Extraordinary Attorney Woo, and that is a fair place to arrive from: her Han Seon-young is the adult in the room in a show that could easily have floated off into whimsy, and the performance keeps the workplace credible.
For range, Mystic Pop-up Bar uses her warmth and The Fiery Priest uses her comic timing, which are not the same instrument. When Life Gives You Tangerines is the recent prestige item and the most emotionally direct thing on the list. Han Gong-ju is the hardest watch here, a small role in a very good and very bleak film, and worth the bruising. Goodbye Earth and Melancholia cover the darker end, and Racket Boys is what you put on when you want none of that.
