Look down the character list and count the boys. Tomari, a voice actress from Ibaraki affiliated with Zynchro, has built her career largely out of male roles: Gobta the goblin in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Chilchuck the half-foot lockpick in Delicious in Dungeon, the child Kyo in Fruits Basket, Yukito in Shonen Maid, Taiga in Puzzle & Dragons. In Japanese animation that is a specialism rather than an accident, and she is one of the people studios call for it.

Chilchuck is the best demonstration of why. He is a tired, prickly, contract-minded professional inside a fantasy about eating monsters, and the comedy only works if the exasperation sounds genuinely middle-aged instead of performed. Tomari plays him dry and a little hoarse, and the character became one of the most loved things in a very well-liked series.

Gobta is the other end of the range and the longer-running job, a cheerfully useless goblin failing upward across That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, The Slime Diaries and the films. When she does get women they tend to be sharp-edged, like Shiden Iida in 86 EIGHTY-SIX or Perdera in Smile of the Arsnotoria the Animation, and Heaven's Design Team gives her Higuchi in a workplace comedy about designing animals. It is an unglamorous and extremely busy kind of career, and the credit list keeps growing into 2026.
