Annalise Basso is an actor, born 1998.
Child actors who keep working are rare, and Annalise Basso is one of them: the transition happened without anyone making a fuss about it. Born in St. Louis in 1998, she has credits going back to 2008, in Bedtime Stories and Alabama Moon, took her first lead in Standing Up, and by 2014 was playing the young version of a grown character in Oculus, which is a specific and underrated job because you have to build somebody else's adult performance backwards.
Ouija: Origin of Evil handed her a lead in a prequel two years later, and by then the type was obvious. Basso is unusually good at children who are not innocent. Paulina Zander, LJ Folger on Snowpiercer, Vespyr Cash in Captain Fantastic: the register is a watchful calm that reads as poise until you notice how little warmth sits behind it. Snowpiercer gave her the best version of it from 2020 to 2022, a first-class teenager on a train where money has stopped meaning what she thinks it means.
Horror has taken the most of her time and given back the least. Slender Man was a bad film that no performance could have rescued. Heaven and Dark Angel, two television adaptations released in the same year, cast her twice as the same character. The Life of Chuck in 2025 is the most interesting thing she has done in a while, and Margo's Got Money Troubles follows in 2026, which for an actress still in her twenties leaves plenty of room.

Where to start with Annalise Basso
Two entry points, depending on what you want. Captain Fantastic is the best film she is in and the easiest recommendation, though she is one of a large family of children and the picture belongs to Viggo Mortensen. Snowpiercer is the biggest role and the real answer if you want to watch her work over time, because LJ Folger is a genuinely unpleasant character and Basso plays her without asking anyone for sympathy.
For horror, Ouija: Origin of Evil is much better than the film it precedes, and Oculus is where she plays the younger version of the lead and gets the tone exactly right. The Life of Chuck is the recent one and the most unusual thing on the list.
Leave Slender Man alone. The Red Road is for people working through everything.
