Ana María Orozco
Ana María Orozco is an actor, born 1973.
Five credits sit on this page and three of them are the same woman. Ana Maria Orozco played Beatriz Pinzon in Yo soy Betty, la fea in 1999, and she has now played her across three decades: the original run, the follow-up Ecomoda in 2001, and Betty la Fea, the Story Continues in 2024. Very few actors are handed a character who keeps coming back for twenty-five years, and fewer still are asked to play the same person at three separate stages of a life.
The performance is why it kept coming back. The role could have been played as a joke about how a woman looks, and Orozco refused that reading. She gave Betty a working intelligence that the camera keeps catching before anyone in the office notices it, and she let the physical comedy come out of nerves rather than out of the costume. The part won her International Female Personality of the Year at the New York Latin ACE Awards in 2001 and Actress of the Year at the INTE Awards the following year.
The work away from Betty is thinner here: Manuela Paz in Somos familia (2014) and Milena in Stolen Away (2020). That is partly the price of an iconic role and partly the shape of a career built in telenovela, where a hit can absorb a decade. On the evidence of this page, she has one part played better than most actors ever play anything.

Where to start with Ana María Orozco
There is only one place to begin, and it is Yo soy Betty, la fea. Go in expecting a long, broad, very funny telenovela rather than a prestige drama, because that is what it is and what it is good at, and give it a few episodes for Orozco to get her hooks in. Once she does, the whole machine runs on her.
Ecomoda picks up directly in 2001 and is best treated as an epilogue rather than a second series. Betty la Fea, the Story Continues is the 2024 return, and its pleasure is watching an actor pick up a character she has aged alongside. If you want her away from the role entirely, Somos familia and Stolen Away are the only two options here, and the second is the more interesting of them.
