Alaina Huffman is an actor, born 1980.
Vancouver turns out genre television at industrial scale, and Alaina Huffman's record is a map of that pipeline. Born in 1980 and also credited as Alaina Kalanj, she took the parts a busy production city hands to new arrivals: a spa receptionist in Serving Sara in 2002, a small role in the 2004 thriller The Gunman, an unnamed celebrity in An American Carol.
Painkiller Jane put her on a call sheet as a lead in 2007, playing Maureen Bowers, and the run of work after it shows what she is reliably good at, which is competence under pressure without any heroic posturing attached. As Tamara Johansen in Stargate Universe she plays the medic on a ship full of people who were never supposed to be there, improvising care with no hospital behind her. Supernatural handed her the opposite assignment: Abaddon, one of the last surviving Knights of Hell, played with an appetite most of that show's villains never manage. She also played Dinah Lance, better known as Black Canary, on Smallville, a credit that is not among the ones listed here.
The film work has stayed smaller and less interesting. She was Lena Halstrom twice in the Jack Hunter adventure films, in 2008 and again in 2010, took a supporting turn in the 2018 thriller The Perfection, and appears as Dana in Waltzing with Brando in 2025. Television is where she gets characters instead of functions, and it is where the work worth watching sits.

Where to start with Alaina Huffman
Begin with Stargate Universe. Tamara Johansen is the most grounded person on that ship, a field medic making decisions nobody trained her for, and the role gives Huffman more to play than anything else on this page. From there, Painkiller Jane is the earlier lead that got her noticed, a comic-book premise carried by a cast doing patient procedural work.
For the entertaining version, her Abaddon episodes of Supernatural are the best argument that she should have been cast as antagonists far more often. The Perfection is the nastiest thing on this list and her part in it is modest, so go in for the film. The two Jack Hunter and the Quest for Akhenaten's Tomb adventures are cheerful cable filler, and Tru Calling is the curio from before any of it happened.
