Air
Air is a musician.
Air are a French duo from Versailles, Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoit Dunckel, who met studying architecture and mathematics and began recording in the mid-nineties. Moon Safari in 1998 was an international success and largely defined what the following decade meant by downtempo: analogue synthesisers, vocoders, Rhodes piano, and an unhurriedness that a great many imitators mistook for background music. Sofia Coppola commissioned them to score The Virgin Suicides, which began a long association with film.

Where to start with Air
Moon Safari is the essential one and still sounds like the future it was imagining. Talkie Walkie is the warmest and the most song-based. The Virgin Suicides is the Sofia Coppola score and works completely on its own, and 10 000 Hz Legend is the deliberately difficult follow-up.
