Credited as Makeout Dave in Up in the Air, Adam Rose has the filmography of a working American character actor: dozens of parts, most of them a scene long, spread across two decades of studio comedies and network television.
He started as a child, voicing Peanut Otter in the animated preschool series PB&J Otter from 1998, then turned up as Otto in The Squid and the Whale in 2005 and Anthony in Margaret. Films like The Bounty Hunter and The Back-Up Plan follow the same pattern: the friend, the co-worker, the guy in the scene. Television has given him more room, with recurring and guest work on Santa Clarita Diet as Barton, L.A.'s Finest as Nathan Baker, Mr. Sunshine, Monday Mornings, Carol's Second Act and Relationship Status. Veronica Mars and Supernatural are on his record too, though neither is among the credits listed here.
Born in Jerusalem in 1987, Israeli-American, he now works as a content creator alongside the acting, which has become the realistic second channel for actors at his level rather than a hobby. Where to start with Adam Rose
The best film he appears in, The Squid and the Whale, gives him a small part, which is the fair summary of most of this list. Watch it for the film; notice him in passing.
Margaret is the more interesting acting assignment, a sprawling, argumentative picture full of young performers being allowed to be annoying, and the sort of ensemble where a small part actually registers.
For the comic timing, Up in the Air gives him a role whose name is the whole characterisation and he still lands it, and Literally, Right Before Aaron hands him more to do. On television, Santa Clarita Diet is the funniest thing he recurs in.
PB&J Otter is the deep cut for anyone who wants to hear him as a child, and it is genuinely odd.
