Adam Pålsson
Adam Pålsson is an actor, born 1988.
Pålsson has managed something most Nordic television actors attempt and few pull off: three separate leading roles, across three different production cultures, without the accent or the register ever hardening into a gimmick. He was born in 1988 outside Stockholm and has worked at the Royal Dramatic Theatre, which shows in how little he does on camera.
The breakout was Christian in SVT's Before We Die, running from 2017 to 2019, a crime serial that puts him in a genuinely untenable position and then trusts him to play it small. Moscow Noir followed, and then Netflix cast him in Young Wallander from 2020 to 2022, as a Kurt Wallander in his twenties. That is a poisoned chalice of a part, since the character already belongs to older actors in the audience's memory, and the smart choice Pålsson makes is to avoid doing an impression of any of them.
The film work is more scattered and more interesting for it. Behind Blue Skies came early, Beware of Children is the strongest of them, and Stockholm Bloodbath dropped him into sixteenth-century Swedish history as Sten Sture.

Where to start with Adam Pålsson
Before We Die first. It is the role that made him and still the best use of him: three years of story spent in an impossible position, played by an actor determined to look ordinary while doing it.
Young Wallander is the one most people arrive through, and it is fine. Handsome, brisk, slightly anonymous, and worth watching for how carefully he underplays a character everyone thinks they already know. The Bridge offers a smaller piece of him inside a much better series. For range, Avenue 5 parks him in an English-language comedy where he is mainly required to be beautiful and blank, and Beware of Children is the serious counterweight, a Norwegian drama with real weight to hold. Stockholm Bloodbath is the costume swing and The Trio is what comes next.
