Aaron Jakubenko has spent his career at the export end of Australian screen production, on the shows built to travel. Born in Melbourne in 1988, he came up through domestic series first: a recurring run as Robbo Slade on Neighbours, Jack Beazley on The Doctor Blake Mysteries as Jean Beazley's son, and Yuri in Conspiracy 365.
Then the international work started. The Shannara Chronicles cast him as Ander Elessedil in an American teen fantasy series, Roman Empire gave him Commodus in a dramatised documentary, and Tidelands made him Augie McTeer.
Roman Empire is the strangest assignment of the three. Acting inside a docudrama means playing full scenes that a narrator then interrupts to explain, so the performance has to survive being talked over by the format itself. Tidelands is the better showcase overall, and Great White is the shark picture that most Australian actors eventually make. The pattern is clear enough: he is the dependable second lead of genre television, and the interesting question is what happens when someone gives him a role that is not built out of a premise.

Where to start with Aaron Jakubenko
Begin with Tidelands. It is the most confident production on his list and gives him the most to play, and it is the fairest look at what he does with a substantial part rather than a functional one.
The Shannara Chronicles is the bigger show and the more generic one, worth your patience only if young-adult fantasy series are already your thing, since it looks considerably better than it is written. Roman Empire is the odd one and the one I would watch second, purely for the discipline of acting inside a documentary. The Doctor Blake Mysteries is the comfortable Australian period procedural where he plays Jack Beazley, and Great White is a shark film that does precisely what shark films do, no more.
